People with coronavirus symptoms are still using lateral flow devices (LFD) to test for the disease.

However, lateral flow tests can be used by people with no symptoms to quickly determine if they are suffering from the virus.

Steve Brown, Director, Public Health Devon said:

“Lateral flow devices tests are only for those who don’t have symptoms of coronavirus.

If you experience coronavirus symptoms, it is important to self-isolate and arrange for a Covid PCR test. These tests are sent to a laboratory for analysis. PCR tests are sequenced in laboratories to detect variants of concern. This is why you should have a PCR testing if you experience symptoms. Your result will be available within a few days. Online bookings are possible or you can call 119 to book PCR tests.

While you wait for your results, you must self-isolate yourself and any other people you share it with. It is essential to follow this rule in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

You would stop self-isolating if you are negative on a PCR test.

If you don’t have symptoms, you can routinely perform the LFD tests to determine if you may be infected. The LFD tests can help identify those who have the virus and stop it from spreading.
